Could an EMDR Intensive be right for you?

Traditional therapy requires weekly or bi-weekly visits, often during daytime hours. With traditional therapy you often have to wait months to start seeing results and if you miss a session, you spend precious time re-establishing the issues. An EMDR Intensive might be right for you, if:

  • You don’t have time to do traditional therapy

  • You’ve experienced a single event trauma (i.e. a car accident, assault)

  • You would like to see relief from your anxiety

  • You would like to clear a large portion of your childhood trauma

  • You would like to work outside the requirements of traditional insurance

What does an EMDR Intensive look like?

After our free call to determine whether I can help, you will be sent paperwork via email. This paperwork will be due one week prior to your intensive along with your deposit to hold your appointment. The morning of your intensive, we will sit down for two hours and carefully go through your life history and do a number of exercises to prepare you for the reprocessing portion of EMDR. After a break for lunch, you will return to the office and spend three hours reprocessing the memories that we discussed in our morning session. At the end of our session, you will be provided with guidance and exercises to help you in the days following your intensive. A week later, you will return to the office for a two hour session to discuss any changes you’ve noticed, reprocess additional material, if needed and plan for further treatment, if necessary. If you have a regular therapist, I will be happy to consult with them regarding the work we’ve done.

What if an Intensive isn’t right for me but I still want to do EMDR?

If an Intensive seems too daunting or a full day of therapy is not feasible, but you still are interested in EMDR, 90-minute sessions are also available. Your first 90-minute session will include a complete life history and exercises to prepare you for reprocessing. Your second 90-minute session will be a reprocessing of your memories. Most clients need more than one 90-minute reprocessing session and together we will determine the best treatment schedule for you. Sessions are $275 for each 90-minute session. Janssen EMDR is not in-network with any insurance companies. A Superbill can be provided for you to submit to your insurance company for any out-of-network benefits.

What does the cost of my intensive include?

The EMDR Intensive package cost of $1,200 includes:

  • A complete intake, including multiple assessments measuring depression, anxiety, and other concerns.

  • Calming and grounding exercises that can be used outside of our session to aid you.

  • Three hours of EMDR reprocessing tailored to your needs.

  • A two-hour post-intensive follow-up which may include more EMDR reprocessing and further treatment planning, if necessary.

  • Snacks, drinks and a comfortable atmosphere.

Frequently asked questions about EMDR Intensives

FAQs

  • That really depends. If you have just one incident of trauma, say a car accident, most likely one Intensive will allow you to move forward. However, if you have more complex trauma, we may be able to accelerate your healing by clearing out large chunks of memories, but we may not get to everything. We can discuss your options during our initial call.

  • If you are already a client of Janssen EMDR and would like to go from a 90-minute session to a 3-hour intensive session, we can discuss that option and when it would be appropriate to do so. Pricing will be discussed at that time.

  • As stated above, depending on the memories, we may be able to clear large portions of memories, but not all. If that is the case, you may choose to do another Intensive (at a reduced rate), or seek out a regular therapist. Recommendations will be made depending on your individual needs and goals.

  • Unfortunately, they are not. I will be able to provide you with a Superbill for one hour of our intake and one hour of our follow-up. You can submit it to your insurance company for reimbursement to help recoup some of your cost.

  • At this time my clinical work is focused on EMDR Intensives. In the future I hope to be able to expand my hours to accommodate those who would like to do talk therapy.
